Love is... Wait what?!

As I was reading Joshua Harris’ book, I Kissed Dating Goodbye, I came to realize a lot of things. Our world provides a crooked definition of love that has got to go. I mean, seriously. Many people are caught up in the idea of love, the passionate, intense emotion for someone, as it was portrayed in movies, and other forms of media. But, in reality, all these things provide us is selfishness. Love is used as a term to indicate that you want someone/something to for your own good, to make you feel loved. Just for your own. Who doesn’t love the feeling of being loved? I, for one, had been like this before. I’m a hopeless romantic, I love being loved, I loved the idea of being in love. I thought I was already in my A-game. But, I was wrong. All that I’m after was my happiness and satisfaction, and not for the good of my partner. I thought this happiness was satisfying. But I was dead wrong.
Let’s look at the ultimate example of love: the Cross. Jesus, who shed His blood for us undeserving people to be saved. I am always in awe of this love, of how Jesus died for my sins, just so that I would have life and live it to the full. What a sacrifice! That is love! Love, that is selfless, Love that is always at the service of people.
So if there comes a time that we may think we are incomplete because we are not in a relationship, think again. God loved us first, so we should love others just like how He loved us. Let us drown ourselves in God’s love, for if we are contented in Him, we will know that He is sure to give us the things we want in His perfect time.
